Review: Rimmel Idol Eyes Mascara by Kate Moss

The timing for a new mascara review has been perfect seeing as I've just finished off a few recently so I was up for checking out what's new...

Rimmel has just released a new variation of their ScandalEyes mascara in a collaboration with Kate Moss.  This new version, called Idol Eyes is designed to "rock the eyes" and add "voluminous lift" to the lashes and I was ever curious to find out what that meant.  Certainly the silver bullet looks suitably menacing doesn't it?

Moving on to the brush below which also looks pretty intimidating too - the large, curved wand is in a "broken heart" shape, and is designed to provide the voluminous lift.  From my own experimentation I found that twirling the brush with the widest part facing my outer lashes I actually did get a pretty decent volumising and curling effect.  It's a bit fiddly at first but quite effective once you get the hang of it and the twirling managed to curl my lashes without any prior use of a lash curler.

The formula itself is non-clumping, does take a little while to dry (so beware of sneezing particularly while the mascara is new and extra wet!), doesn't flake and the lashes hold their curl throughout the day.  It is EXTREMELY black and volumising and does make for standout lashes.  You'll see the evidence of that inky black on your makeup remover pads too.

Two coats on the left compared with my natural lashes on the right:

Side view to demonstrate the lift and curl:

Overall I was impressed with this mascara and I think it will improve even more as the formula dries out a little after a few weeks.  Ideally I would have liked to see it in a waterproof formula too.

Idol Eyes Mascara by Kate Moss retails for $16.95AUD and is available at:
Priceline, Priceline Pharmacy, Big W, Woolworths, Coles, Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist,
Target and Kmart and various Independent Pharmacies.

  1. You have beautiful lashes, Vita! I need really small mascara brush for my lashes. Some big ones work, but so far, I've had pretty bad luck with mascaras. *cries*

    1. Aww thanks Lily! It can be all about the brush design for sure - I've tried some weird and wonderful brushes over the years too. My most memorable fail was a mascara with rather spiky (and sharp) plastic bristles, which used to hurt if I went right down to the base of my lashes :p

  2. Ah, I think you, like Tracy, don't need much help in the lash department! This looks like a pretty nice one, although I agree, I usually prefer formulas when they dry out a bit!

    1. Thank you Larie :)

And I was really impressed with how the mascara really did lift my lashes - that's no mean feat!

  3. Love the look of this one on you - dare I say better than Kate?! ;)

It's been too long since I've really tried a new mascara - I bought a fresh Covergirl Clump Crusher for my wedding day and now I just don't want to give it up and use anything else!

    1. You're too kind young lady - might I remind you that you have very lovely lashes yourself!

Clump Crusher is definitely on my must try list actually because I prefer my lashes to have a defined look as well :)

  4. This looks great on you, Vita! I just tried Rimmel Rockin' Curves which has the broken heart shape and it's just too large for my small eyes and short lashes.

    1. Thanks Kristen! I know large brushes can be tricky and that's why they intimidate me too - usually I prefer shorter bristled, tapered brushes, especially when I want a defined look :)

  5. Jealous of your lashes! The last time I tried a Rimmel mascara, it ended up giving me raccoon eyes within an hour so I've given up. Glad this works well for you!

    1. I've noticed that Rimmel mascaras can have a very wet formula - I've been caught out with little black dots from sneezing when I thought it was dry but dang it wasn't!
