My red lipstick wardrobe & Kiss Goodbye to MS

I'm doing this post for two reasons:  firstly the lovely Emma of Emma Bovary Beauty requested a peek inside my red lipstick wardrobe and secondly to alert you to the very worthy Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign running this month.

Okay, so what's inside my red lipstick wardrobe?  Considering I have a very extensive lipstick collection (it's not just about the nails you know!) I don't have that many true red lipsticks on rotation so I cheated a little by including a few berry and cherry toned lippies to bulk this post up a bit.

Shown L - R:
  • Tom Ford Lip Color (Wild Ginger) - The newest lipstick in my collection.  This is a vivid orange red creme lipstick I can see myself wearing all year round once I get past treasuring it and saving it for special occasions!  Very expensive but I heart it as you can read in my post here
  • Revlon Colorburst (Raspberry) - This is one of the lipsticks I consider to be more berry than red and I've been wearing it a lot lately because of my current berry kick! It's slightly sheer but buildable so I can control the color payoff and it feels so light on my lips I need to check in the mirror to see if it's still there - yes, it usually is.
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Crystal Lipstick (Crystal Cherry - discontinued shade) - I love how this lipstick looks but it damn well doesn't love me. It's a lovely shiny finish cherry with a very slight shimmer.  This soft red really looks gorgeous and juicy on my lips just after I've applied it but the formula isn't long-lasting and it bleeds no matter what I do to try to anchor the colour - I conceal, line and powder my lips and it still bleeds!  I think I need some Restylane injections if I want to make this lipstick formula work for me...
  • MAC (Russian Red) - It's one of MAC's cult red lipsticks and yet it's sat relatively unloved in my collection.  I don't know why so I've decided it's now time for me to embrace this classic true red lipstick - I think I'm grownup enough to handle it now! I love the even velvety coverage on my lips.  Although technically a matte lipstick this has enough sheen to avoid a flat colour and it has amazing longevity in terms of wear.
  • Lasting Finish by Kate (10) - This is one hell of a kicka**, uber-bright blue based red and one to wear when I'm feeling really brave.  This semi-matte lippy is the perfect red to shake off the winter cobwebs and contrasts well with winter-pale skin.  To see my full collection of Rimmel lipstick and review of the different colours and finishes click here.
  • Lasting Finish (Temptation) - Temptation is one of my favourite red lipsticks and is a slightly darker, warmer variation of by Kate's #10.  Just a little safer to wear but still delivers that true red punch.  A great year-round red.

So what did I wear today? MAC's Russian Red.  This was quickly swiped onto bare lips straight from the tube without lipliner and you can see the subtle sheen:

Just a quick word about Kiss Goodbye to MS.  The idea is to:  wear red lipstick, dare others to go red and share the message with a special kiss goodbye to ms event.  Click on the Kiss Goodbye to MS link at the top of this post to find out more or...

  1. Firstly thank you so, so much for the support Vita! I really appreciate it and it's definitely a great cause so the more awareness the better!

Secondly, awesome selection of reds! I really have to go check out Russian Red because it looks lovely. You might have noticed that I kind of cheated and added some cherries and berries to my red lip campaign too but red comes in many different shades so I think it still counts :) xx
