Catrice: Iron Mermaiden

I received my first ever Catrice polishes in a swap some time ago with the lovely Ina (see here) and I was lucky enough to score the cool toned duo-chrome Iron Mermaiden.

I actually think this is more multi-chrome as the metallic silver switches from pink to green-toned depending on the way it catches the light.  It was a little sheer in application so I needed three good coats to get full opacity but the result was worth it.  I loved the cold metallic, almost mirror finish and found myself checking out my nails more than once, tilting them this way and that to catch the flashes of colour.  These polishes are always a challenge to photograph and inevitably they look more eye-catching in real life but anyway here are LOTS of pictures...

  1. Gorgeous! I love these kinds of polishes. I saw a Nissan Skyline in this exact colouring today. Very pretty.

    1. Haha! Car coloured polish - I can totally relate! I very often look at cars and wonder how the metallic paint job would look on my nails ;p

  3. These sorts of shades confuse me...hahahaha! I think I prefer a secret shimmer sort of thing to these finishes, but this one does seem more nuanced than they normally do!

    1. Thanks Boo! I do try to take better care of my hands these days - I used to have a pretty shocking nervous habit of picking at my cuticles so they looked quite ragged. These days I'd rather moisturise them! xo

  6. Love the duochrome effect! And you've done a brilliant job at capturing it, I always struggle, lol!

I must say that these sort of polishes distract me as I spend ages tilting my hands this way and that. :P

    1. Me too! I was sitting in a restaurant where the wall was mirrored and I kept admiring the reflection at different angles like a silly thing, lol! xo

  7. I had a Deborah Lippmann shade like this but got rid of it as it wasn't really my thing. Tons of similar ones out now. I'm glad you're enjoying it!

    1. Thanks Liz, duochromes are really difficult to find down here so when I score one I love the novelty of wearing it! This has a crazy reflective finish too like chrome! xo

  8. I love this special nail polishes that have a sort of holographic colour effect on them. Just recently bought one from Zoya at Salon Melbourne in a similar shad to the this Iron Maiden one you've got on but I think with a slightly more warmer tone to it. Will have to show it to you one day. :)

  9. Looks so much like OPI Not Like the Movies except the OPI has this silver microshimmer running through it. It's also pretty similar to a Rimmel polish that recently came out. These kinds of polishes that flash different colours depending on the light are so fun to look at :)

    1. I have a real weakness for anything duochrome - I know I have Not Like the Movies stashed away somewhere too :p

  10. Hi Vita, Wow, I love how you've shown this polish--- I was wondering if you had combined two different colors in a gradient, until I realized it was the duochrome effect. Really gorgeous :)

    1. Thanks Dovey! I didn't realize how well the effect photographed until I saw it on my phone! My old laptop that I use for blogging has quite a subdued colour palette - time to upgrade it I think...
