Haul post: Red Earth eyeshadow

Hi...I was a very naughty girl last month. I walked into Coast to Coast at Melbourne Central and saw Red Earth Illusion Lights individual eyeshadows selling for $3AUD each.  I bought five, then went back the next day and bought another five!

I was interested to discover from the shop assistant why these were selling so cheaply.  Red Earth cosmetics is being rebadged and relaunched.  Red Earth was launched just over 20 years ago (I'm old enough to fondly remember their lovely lipglosses) with lots of stand-alone stores in Australia, also branching out internationally.  According to the lovely salesperson - who was more than happy to give me the history - Red Earth was bought by Esprit some years ago but now the original Australian owners are apparently restaking their claim, having bought it back.  As a result the products are to be relaunched in swish new packaging, hence the need to clear out the superseded packaged stock.

Anyway, enough of my blabbing - here are the shades up close, followed by the beautifully pigmented swatches:

Lavender Sky (Soft Frost)

Magical Moon (Soft Frost)

Royal Seduction (Sparkle Velvet)

Cocoa Berry (Satin Shine)

Rose Noire (Sparkle Velvet)

Golden Kiss (Brilliant Pearl)

Tiger Eye (Satin Shine)

Burnt Caramel (Satin Shine)

Irish Tweed (Satin Shine)

After Eight (Brilliant Pearl)

Swatched from L-R in natural daylight
Top Row:  Lavender Sky, Magical Moon, Royal Seduction, Cocoa Berry, Rose Noire
Bottom Row:  Golden Kiss, Tiger Eye, Burnt Caramel, Irish Tweed, After Eight

Full Sun

I was really impressed by vibrancy and rich pigmentation of these eyeshadows - particularly the sparkle velvet and satin shine finish shades.  All of the shades were superbly smooth on application. They are produced in Italy and are 1.5g/.053oz each.

I think now's a good time to tell you I'm on a 'slow'-buy, but then again this really wasn't a huge splurge.  I bought all of these for a grand total of $30AUD.

I'll let you know how these fare in terms of durability, crease resistance etc soon.

Until my next post.

Vita :)

  3. @Christina - If you Google Red Earth's website you'll see it's still not quite up yet but stay tuned.

@Emily - These shadows ARE gorgeous! I felt like a kid in a candy store. I think Coast to Coast are still selling them cheap until next weekend - just in case you need some more :)

  4. that's pretty good deal!

i thought red earth is pulling out again with the recent massive markdown.

i remember red earth was 'the other body shop' australian style. i love going to the store until it was bought by esprit and things went downhill - poor pigmentation, overpriced.

i'm now looking forward to the relaunch. hope it's as good as it orginally was.

  5. @prettymom - The Coast to Coast staff have assured me Red Earth is definitely relaunching as a stand-alone boutique beauty brand. The mark-down is to get rid of the old Esprit-packaged product. The new stock could be in as early as next week - fingers crossed. I'm pretty excited because I loved the original Red Earth too!
