I finally plucked up the courage to try a dotticure last weekend. I didn't have any specific dotting tools so this mani was created using toothpicks. Following the advice of one of my expert nail art blogger friends (sorry I can't remember exactly who) I'd cut the toothpicks in half to create large dots. This manicure isn't perfect but it's not half bad either - I dotted black and gold foil polish randomly over my beige Don't Pretzel My Buttons base for colour coordinated craziness...
Do you like it? Well, then I went and added something more - a little layering with a single coat of Essie's As Gold As it Gets. I can't decide if I like this look better or not...
Polish used L - R:
Revlon - Black Lingerie, Gold Coin
Essie Luxe Effects - As Gold As it Gets
Which look do you prefer?
Until next time
Vita :)
I like the first look better .. dotticure looks great .. and the black and the gold look great against that base .. I tired dotting with tooth pick once, somehow it didn't work :( .. may be I will try again ..
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with you Saumya - the black dots get obscured in the second version, but I didn't care cos it was all in the name of experimentation! Try snipping the toothpick in half - it creates larger, more definite dots :)
Deleteyes am surely gonna try it soon .
DeleteVery fun manicure, I love it both ways but it's even more complete with gold over. And I love that OPI base color too, great nude shade
ReplyDeleteThanks! I thought the OPI would be the perfect neutral base and it didn't disappoint :) xo
DeleteLove it without the gold overlay- gold foil dots are awesome! I would never think to do a mani like this, but I like it.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually think to do it either, or rather I kept shying away from it, but the results of the first attempt now have me converted. Expect more dottiness from me!
DeleteI looks great, I prefer it without the Essie on top, it gets a bit busy. But the dots could have been placed over the Essie - anyhow, I like what I see :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea about layering the dots OVER the Essie - I really did this on the spur of the moment and the Essie was an afterthought :p
DeleteYour dotticure looks awesome either way, but I prefere the first version :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ina, I think it was me getting carried away and overstepping it a bit with the creativity. I agree with you - it's the first mani for me too :)
DeleteI like both! They're different. The first looks very mod and edgy...and then with the gold overlay, it looks more festive.
ReplyDeleteThanks Larie! I dare you to try one of these - it's surprisingly easy to do AND easy to remove unlike glitter(always a bonus if you don't like it)!
DeleteI like both but I think I like it without better. Glad you're breaking your boundaries!!
ReplyDeleteYay for getting out of my comfort zone! I always admired the dotty manis but was too unsure to try it for myself. Expect more dotticures from me! :)
DeleteThis is SO pretty! I can't decide which one I prefer more, but if I REALLY had to choose, I think I like it more without the gold overlay...only by the smallest of margins though!
ReplyDeleteStunning! ♥♥♥
Aww thanks! I want to try your take on Marc Jacobs Dot - I really LOVED that! xo
DeleteSo cute! I like both but the second softens the effect of the black dots so that they're not as harsh. I know someone with a dot phobia and the first look would scare her for sure. (Yep, it is as bizarre as it sounds!)
ReplyDeleteI won't laugh at that one although it's a pretty unusual sounding phobia! I do warn you though that I plan on going dotty again one day just cos it was so much easier and much more fun than I'd thought - I have mad plans about multi-coloured dots!
DeleteI like the pizzazz a layer of As Gold As It Gets adds to it. So pretty!
