Repurchased.

I enjoy reading monthly/seasonal beauty favourites posts - I really love them! I've even considered getting my act together and posting my own monthly favourites. But then - I started pondering about what are my perennial - you know, recurring - favourites? In my fickle existence as a beauty consumer and blogger what are the things I loved enough to repurchase? Monthly favourites will come and go as the seasons change I guess but what are the makeup items I felt drawn to come back to?

So...I wrote a list of those things.  It's not a very long list and I'm not surprised at all, because as I just said, I am FICKLE.  And here they are laid out in that deliberately 'nonchalantly' messy manner in the picture below.  These are the things I've repurchased.  Now I'll share why - for me - each of these are worth going back for seconds (or thirds, or fourths?!) ...

Clockwise from the top:
  • MAC Satin Lipstick (Rebel) - Rebel is the only MAC lipstick I've ever repurchased and it's all about that amazing vibrant pink-plum colour which inevitably pops up as a winter staple in my lipstick wardrobe - when I'm not reaching for a deep red that is!  As everyone will tell you, this looks a heck of a lot more scary in the tube than it does on the lips. Actually I don't find it scary on the lips at all because the bright pink undertone keeps this from being a complexion draining colour and it gives life to my pale face in winter. It's one of those shades I'll leave alone for a few months but every time I "rediscover" it, it's not for a one-off wear because I end up wearing it for several consecutive days afterwards! While it's not scary it does make for a statement lip, so if you're a little nervous about this one it also applies beautifully when blotted on the lips, for a flattering berry stain.
  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer - When I first starting using this I liked it...but then I grew to love it because it seems to work under everything! This primer glides across the skin and I only need half a pump to get enough to work the T-zone or a full pump to prime the whole face.  It tones down the redness, provides a silky base for my makeup and eliminates any dry patches, especially in winter.  It's a luxury product but I managed to make my first bottle last a year so I think I can budget for it.
  • Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon Trio (Walking On Eggshells) - I remember working so concertedly to finish my original trio during my 'Beauty Diet' last year and it was then I realized just how versatile this little palette was.  Walking On Eggshells is a very wearable warm trio of colours that all worked just as easily as standalones as they did worn together in different combinations. Besides that, the silky, shimmery (not frosty) finish on the shades is also something that I have a real weakness for - be reassured that I don't take the shimmer onto the brow bone though! These shades don't crease at all either and yes, they blend like no one's business.  I can't fault this at all and being a drugstore product it's a steal too, even at the higher price in Australia!
  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer - I know that I've repurchased this product more than a few times!  Even after straying to other similar products I've returned because this pen does it all for me: brightens, conceals and highlights at a fraction of the price I used to pay for my YSL Touche Eclat I was obssessed with years ago, and to be honest this little pen gives much better coverage.
  • Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stain (Honey) - I haven't quite finished my first crayon but I already have the backup waiting in the wings, and it's all about the colour again with this product.  Whereas MAC Rebel is a statement colour, Honey is the most easy and versatile colour for my lips and it seems to go with absolutely everything from bare to smokey eye looks so I have it lounging around in my bag ready for whenever it's needed. If a lip colour has to go everywhere with me I know it's a good one and a solid favourite!
Now for some nonchalant swatches of the eye and lip colours. From left to right:

Walking On Eggshells, Honey, Rebel

What makeup items have you repurchased?  Please share!

Until next time...

  1. Rebel is so gorgeous, I seriously need to swatch it again ! Great picks. I have been loving doing the Repurchased post also but its mostly skincare or haircare. I have hardly repurchased much makeup except Maybelline Falsies mascara.

    1. You would look fabulous wearing Rebel! I've repurchased loads of skincare and haircare but I find that all the new releases in makeup really make me fickle to move on - with the exception of these products anyway! Lol

  3. A lot of people absolutely love Honey, but I've never tried it! I have the Walking on Eggshells in my collection too, and I actually purchased a small bottle of the Mineral Veil last year, but still haven't dug into it (too many primer samples I'm trying to use up...). Thanks for sharing your repurchases, Vita - I don't think I've actually ever repurchased any make-up product! I go through things sooo slowly...

    1. Slow is good! I'm sure if I didn't work in a horribly lit office I wouldn't go through my makeup anywhere near as fast - poor lighting demands makeup trickery to stop me looking like a ghoul! I'll be interested to see what you think of the Hourglass primer when you try it - it was a bit of sleeper hit for me but once it grew on my I was hooked!

  4. Ah how I love honey!!! It just so happens it's what I have on right now :)

I like the idea of this post, but you also do monthly favs as well!

    1. Honey is my number one standby lip shade and I completely understand why it's a universal favourite! I'm still considering whether I should/could do monthly favourites posts. To be honest I don't know if I have the discipline. I think they could end up being repetitive too because I usually hook a favourite into regular rotation for quite a while! Lol

  5. Hello! What a fantastic post (as always)- I've only just purchased Rebel and I still haven't worn it! I must try the concealer, I love it when products multitask! My repurchases of note were Black Amethyst lipstick by Pur Minerals - which is kinda similar to Rebel actually, but a little more berry on the lips. Fifth Avenue Fuchsia lippie by Maybelline and Model's Prefer foundation- which is AWESOME and a perfect colour match for me! :)

    1. Hey there Christina! I can't wait to see you - and your amazing lips - wearing Rebel!

I'm turning my attention more and more to CF brands these days and Pur Minerals is on my list of brands to try so I'll make a note of Black Amethyst. It's always great to have an excuse to buy a new lipstick! Lol

  6. I love that you're a Rebel woman! Every time you mention it, I want to take it out for a spin myself. :)

    1. I'm a Rebel woman - yeah!!!

Honestly there's nothing not to love about this lipstick IMO. The colour, the pigmentation, and it feels pretty comfortable on the lips too!

  7. This is a great post and such a good idea! Most repurchased are the true epitome of favorites, aren't they? Rebel is such a stunner; I bet it's so striking on you. I was a little scared when I first got it, but thought it was beautiful once I swiped it on. My husband, who absolutely hates dark lipsticks, LOVED it on me, much to my surprise. It's a really nuanced color! I have actually bought Revlon Honey twice. It had been so long between buys that I couldn't recall why I no longer had it. I remembered after the first day I wore it - it reacts crazily with my pH and turns an incredibly loud and clang-y color. Sadly, I've set it aside once again. Balm stains and I don't get along well as the colors always get so harsh on me, while they're soft and beautiful on others. I guess I have a very aggressive pH, LOL! ;) Walking On Eggshells looks beautiful and I can see why you've bought it a few times. My most repurchased would include Bite Agave Lip Mask, First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter, YSL Mat + Radiant Powder, and Bath & Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel body wash.

    1. Rebel is such a nuanced colour indeed - and it always gets a compliment so it's a great morale boost whenever I wear it! I feel like MAC aced it with the formula of that lipstick too because it's one of their most pigmented shades I can wear comfortably and it doesn't migrate or slip around. It's a shame that Honey doesn't work for you - I must admit I've had that problem with a few of the lighter shades that 'turned' on my lips so it doesn't completely surprise me. You have quite a few repurchases on your list Kristen - Maybe you could consider a 'repurchased' post too!
