Sportsgirl Nail It! polish: Speckled Lilac

After my last rather wordy piece I wanted to lighten it up a bit around here with a pretty little nail polish post!

Now that I'm focusing on Cruelty Free products I've been digging through my nail polish collection on a mission and finding some hidden gems like this one from Australian fashion chain Sportsgirl.  I often go looking through Sportsgirl's bargain baskets for discounted polishes and that's how I ended up buying Speckled Lilac.  This polish melds the prettiest lilac creme with a rainbow mix of glitter which remind me of candy sprinkles, known fondly as "100s & 1000s".  This polish was very easy to apply and looked perfect in two coats.  Sadly, the fact that I found this in the bargain basket means it's discontinued. On the upside, Sportsgirl continue to roll out wonderful affordable Cruelty Free polishes so that will give me an excuse to visit their counter again!

And just in case you haven't seen 100s & 1000s...

That's enough eye candy for now!

Sportsgirl Nail It! Glitter Envy

Feeling festive?  It's taken me a while to warm up but I'm finally into it so my nails are lately all about festive colours and finishes.

Sportsgirl released a gorgeous tinselly green polish some months ago called Glitter Envy.  It's basically very densely packed fine teal green glitter in a green base so it's a standalone polish, although I'm sure a single coat could also be used as a festive topper.  I used three coats plus top coat for a depth of finish.  This polish is utterly perfect for this time of year so I'm so disappointed it's disappeared from Sportgirl's line up.  You may be lucky to find it in their discount bins - very lucky - and if you are that lucky grab it!

Sportsgirl Nail It! Rose Gold

For lovers of rose gold here's another post for you!

This Sportsgirl nail polish from the Nail It! range makes no bones about what it is.  It's very straightforwardly called Rose Gold and is a mix of different sizes of rose gold glitter in a clear base.  I used two coats over my pearly rose gold base polish and ended up with something looking like a rough foil, or almost sequin effect.  It was one of those weekend manicures I couldn't bear to take off and it stayed 100% intact all week too - a total winner for me as I can't seem to get enough of this precious metal at the moment...

Nail It! - Purple Haze

Hello :)

I love purple AND I love glitter so I was head over heels when I spotted Sportsgirl's purple glitter polish shade Purple Haze in their Nail It! line late last year. Typically this polish was another 'blink and you'll miss it' LE polish so I apologize for posting it so very late.

Purple Haze is a mix of predominantly purple hex glitter, with blue and red hex glitter and some larger silver diamond shaped glitter thrown in. I wore two coats over a dark blue base (Maybelline Sapphire Siren) and topped it with two generous layers of top coat to even it out a little.

Accent mani: Revlon Dreamer and Nail It! Fantasy

Argh!!!  I'm trying to type while my giant cat walks all over me  - and my keyboard!!!  I'll just persist...

I've been embracing blue nails in a big way of late (there's blue and there's blue don't you know?) and here's another pretty blue NOTD I wore a few weeks ago.  Dreamer is a soft sky blue cream polish from Revlon's updated range and it's right up my alley because it leans ever so slightly towards periwinkle.  I could have easily worn it unadorned but true to form I went and found a complimentary glitter polish to accent it!  Fantasy was one of a range of glitter polishes Australian fashion brand Sportsgirl released in their fabulous - and ever changing - Nail It! lineup for the 2012 Christmas season.  Fantasy is another one of those party in a polish combos with a host of different sized and coloured glitters.  I could try and describe all the colours but I'll let you have the fun of picking them out this time!

Thanks for looking!

I'm accumulating a backlog of pictures at the moment so expect a flood of posts from me soon!

Nail It! Show Off

I know that teal polishes were huge last winter and they don't seem to be around as much this year but I still love them!

This quickie post features a deep teal creme from Sportsgirl's polish brand Nail It!  I snapped up Show Off from Sportsgirl's bargain bin last year so it's unfortunately no longer available.  I do mean it when I say unfortunate because this was another lovely polish to apply.  Very smooth, with a lacquer-like shine.  Beautiful depth of coverage in two coats.  I wore this manicure unadorned for quite a few days just because I loved the shininess and vampy impact of it...

I heart duochrome (Nail It - Lucky Star)

I was going to save this for after my monthly empties review post but I've just got to share it now with all you purple lovers out there!

This attention grabbing polish is from Sportgirl's Nail It! line.  Lucky Star is a grape-toned purple with a very strong shimmery blue colour shift.  As with all Sportsgirl polishes this was perfection on application.  It actually dried down to a semi-matte finish but I added topcoat to give it lustre.  I just <3 this colour!!  Purple duochrome = love in a bottle for me!  I'd better not gush anymore.  I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves...

Nail It: Pacific

Hello and happy Hump day to everyone!

Being the last day of summer here in Australia I'm posting a bright and beachy shade of blue polish.  Pacific is the perfect name for this polish from Sportsgirl's Nail It! line.  It's the most intense aqua blue with a subtle green/blue shimmer.  I'm dreaming this really is the colour of the Pacific Ocean as it's so beautifully vivid.  As with all my Sportsgirl polishes application was a breeze and two coats provided smooth, perfectly even colour.  Bonus:  My Hubby approves of this blue too!

Full Sun- Look at the shimmer!

That's all for summer!  Now I've got to start thinking about the autumn/fall shades again...

Silver tipped French mani

Hi!

I've been getting busy with work and life lately so I'll keep this post short and sweet.  Last week's work manicure was still going strong on Friday night so rather than repainting I did a fun touch up for the weekend.   I used another old Nail It! polish, the foil silver Bionic to apply the French tips then finished with butterfly stickers for each ring finger.  I think I managed to make a grey manicure look cute!

I hope you're having a great Valentine's day if you're celebrating.  My Hubby bought me a gorgeous little gift which I'll share with you as soon as I have time to take the pics.

Nail It! Skeleton

Hello

My hands and nails have copped a bit of abuse this past week.  First I badly tore the cuticle on one of the fingers of my swatching hand at the start of the week, then I went and tore two fingernails down to the quick - fortunately on the other hand.  Result:  I've had to crop these pictures to spare you my cuticle gore, and after the breaking debacle I've had to nubbinise my nails so they look reasonably neat and even.

OK, enough of my little sob story.  The mani I'm posting is what I wore for my first day back at the office.  I wanted something non-committal to wear so I chose Skeleton, another of my polishes from Sportsgirl's Nail It! range.  This light grey creme reminds me of putty.  It's an on-trend neutral and I wanted to love it but I don't think this shade particularly loves my complexion:

Nail It: Cherish

Here's one of my favourite polish looks from last week :)

I bought Cherish in one of my last hauls and it's a screamer of a colour for summer!  Cherish is another polish from Sportsgirl's Nail It line of nail polishes and is a neon coral/pink with a slight blue shimmer.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, these nail polishes are fantastic in their application.  They apply super smoothly and evenly and it shows. My only gripe is the seasonal colour collections change very quickly so if you love something you don't hesitate - you grab it!

I applied three coats for full opacity:

Nail It: Wow!

Happy Wednesday!

In my last post I wrote how impressed I've been with Sportsgirl nail polish so far.  Wow! from Sportsgirl's Nail It! polish range is an example of the perfect polish - high impact colour and buttery smooth application.  Wow! is a bright purple creme which reminds me of grape bubblegum.  It actually dries down to a semi-matte vinyl finish which is interesting, but I added some Sally Hansen Megashine and the colour went Kapow!  This is the sort of polish that gets compliments from strangers and I mean that in the nicest possible way...

Nail It: Bionic

Even though I love silver I don't actually have many silver nail polishes.  I don't know, somehow they can all look a bit the same to me and I try to avoid dupes wherever I can. Well, this polish I'm going to share with you is the only silver foil nail polish I own.

Bionic is one of the handful of Sportsgirl's Nail It nail polishes in my stash.  It's a standout silver foil, although my husband was a bit underwhelmed and said, "Boring old silver".  I have to disagree with him because it's a 'look at me' foil and contrasts with my skin.  It was a little brush-strokey but not too bad.   Here 'tis:

I've got to admit I didn't leave this mani alone.  You'll have to read my next post to see what I added :)

A near dupe for Chanel's Black Pearl: Nail It! Berlin

I think my NOTD is a pretty good imitation of Chanel's Black Pearl nail polish.  I thought Chanel's Black Pearl polish looked pretty interesting, but 9 times out of 10 I'll back away from spending $39AUD on a bottle of polish.   It's got to be better than merely interesting for me to hand over that kind of money, it's got to be spectacular!

So...I was in Sportsgirl the other day when I spotted a shade in their Nail It! line called Berlin that looked pretty darn close to that Chanel.  It had that deep grey/teal metallic shimmer that I recognise.  Best of all I only had to spend $7.95AUD.  This polish applied quite smoothly, with good depth of colour.  It may be a shade darker than the Chanel but it still has the elements of Black Pearl.

Here are the pics in different lighting - alas no sun!
