Midnight in NY is the second of three Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes I'm posting and the one which looked most interesting.
Midnight In NY is one of those sneaky, teasing polish colours. It appears flat black in most situations - and yet when caught in bright light it lightly shimmers with a multidimensional galaxy of tiny sparkles. Damn those sneaky polishes because I always expect so much more of them! This time I remembered to skip the base coat so I needed 3 coats of colour to get complete coverage and despite the 7-in-1 claims I still needed to apply top coat the next day to bring up the shine. On the positive side wear time was easily one week and removal was quick with no messy staining on my nails - I was a little worried about that because of the lack of base coat. These pictures show the results of 3 coats of colour with no top coat.

What do you think of the subdued sparkle?
LOL, I know exactly that feeling, I too expect more of them - but in the sun close-ups it really looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBut 3 coats is a surprise LOL - and yeah, the 7-in-1 doesn't work for me either...
I always fall for how a polish looks in the bottle and then it doesn't quite get there :p
DeleteOooh, nice and moody and dark :D Love shades like these! Although I have Essie Mint Candy Apple on right now, lol!
ReplyDeleteMint Candy Apple is such a classic! It was like THE original creamy mint I remember drooling over before Essie came to Australia :)
DeleteI think I'd ideally prefer a bit more shimmer in it, but if you were looking for a black polish this is certainly prettier than the average!
ReplyDeleteTrue! It has just enough difference to justify owning this in addition to a black cream polish :)
DeleteI have this one as well and always expect more, as well. But it's so pretty so I can forgive it haha
ReplyDeleteIt's very pretty - in the right light!!!
DeleteI don't usually like black but this is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt's all in that sneaky sparkle!
DeleteI really like this one. Haven't worn it in a long while but I think I put it on about 3 times, which is a lot considering our nail polish ADD situation.
ReplyDelete3 times is indeed a lot! Yeah I suffer from the same attention deficit too - probably x 10!!!
DeleteI have been a little obsessed with this polish lately and have worn it on my toes for about three months straight! (Obviously I've been taking it off and reapplying in between :-))
ReplyDeleteI just love the subtle sparkle.
Wow!!! Isn't it great when you find THE perfect polish! I have my favourite pedicure shades too! :)
